Florence Florence

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 September 2026

Florence is a voice-based AI maths tutor operated in Australia by Dennis Liu as a sole trader (ABN 15 349 146 521) ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information we collect when you or your child uses Florence, how we use and store it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Florence and children

Florence is designed for school-age students, so we treat privacy with particular care. Accounts must be created by a parent or guardian aged 18 or over, who consents to the collection and use of their child's information as described in this policy. Please read this policy before letting a child in your care use Florence.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your email address and a password, managed by our authentication provider (Supabase). We never see your password.
  • Lesson transcripts. A text transcript of the conversation between the student and Florence, along with usage metrics such as lesson duration and processing usage. We do not record or store voice audio — audio is streamed live for speech processing (see below) and only the text transcript is kept.
  • Learning profile. A short, AI-generated summary used to personalise future lessons: approximate grade level, the last topic covered, and brief notes about the student's understanding.
  • Uploaded images. Photos of written work you upload are sent to our AI provider for analysis. We do not store the image itself; we only log that an image was analysed.
  • Feedback. Messages you send through our Help & Feedback form, with an optional email address if you would like a reply.
  • Usage data. Basic records of when and how long Florence is used, so we can apply free-tier time limits and keep the service reliable.

How we use your information

We use this information to run lessons, personalise tutoring to the student, apply usage limits, keep the service safe and reliable, and respond to your feedback. We do not sell personal information and we do not show third-party advertising.

AI processing and service providers

We use a small number of service providers to run Florence:

  • Supabase — account authentication and database hosting.
  • OpenAI — powers the live voice conversation (audio is streamed from your browser directly to OpenAI) and analyses uploaded images of written work.
  • Anthropic — helps solve harder maths problems and generates the learning profile from lesson transcripts.

We use OpenAI and Anthropic through their business APIs, whose terms state that data submitted through the API is not used to train their models. These providers process data in the United States, so some information is transferred outside Australia; we only use providers that commit to protecting it under their service terms.

How long we keep information

Lesson transcripts and the learning profile are kept while your account is active, so Florence can remember what the student has been working on. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time via the Help & Feedback page; we action verified deletion requests within 30 days.

Access, correction and deletion

You can request a copy of the information we hold about you or your child, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, via the Help & Feedback page. If you have a privacy concern we can't resolve, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Security

Information is encrypted in transit and stored with access controls that restrict who and what can read it. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we keep the amount of personal information we hold to the minimum needed to run Florence.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and flag material changes on the site.
